ORTHODONTICS

METAL BRACES

Metal braces are the more traditional braces that come to mind when you think of orthodontic treatment. They compromise of wires and brackets that apply gentle pressure to teeth over a period of time to move them into a particular position. Many people will picture metal wires and brackets that need to be worn for a long period of time, but orthodontics has advanced greatly in recent years, and modern orthodontic treatment is much quicker and more comfortable than it was in the past.

Metal braces are still the brace of choice for many patients looking for high position and prompt treatment.

CLEAR CERAMIC BRACES

Ceramic (clear or tooth colored) Braces are a popular choice for those who desire less noticeable braces. Ceramic braces work just like metal braces. The obvious advantage is that they blend in with your teeth for a great look. They offer strength and beauty during your treatment. You can smile without reservations during your orthodontic treatment! Advancements in design have made them small and smooth for your comfort and there is little to no staining. You may even get “frosted” wires that complete the esthetic look.

 Invisalign®

Invisalign® are clear aligners which are an alternative to traditional braces and are designed to help guide teeth into their proper position. Similar to braces, Invisalign® use a gradual force to control tooth movement, but without metal wires or brackets. The aligners are made of a strong thermoplastic material (BPA-free) and are fabricated to fit each individual’s mouth. If a series of aligners are needed, each aligner moves the teeth in increments until the desired movement is achieved. Invisalign®  aligners are worn for at least 20 hours a day to reach the desired maximum effectiveness.  Each Invisalign® aligner is worn for three weeks before changing to the next one. The length of treatment with Invisalign® aligners depends upon the severity of each case. Typically, Invisalign® aligner treatment can be as short as three weeks or as long as six months.

*Advantages of orthodontic treatment with Invisalign® clear aligners – They are a great alternative for patients who want a straighter smile, but do not want to wear traditional metal braces. Also, aligners are beneficial for patients with previous orthodontic treatment that want to make minor corrections to their smile. • Invisalign® are removable aligners so it is easier for you to brush and floss after meals
  • Invisalign® are easier to keep clean
  • Invisalign® are comfortable and less likely to irritate your gums and cheeks
